Game Mechanics
An Idle Tower Defense combines classic tower defense strategy with idle progression mechanics. You place defensive towers along a fixed path where waves of enemies march toward your base. Towers automatically target and fire at enemies within range, using different damage types (single‑target, area splash, slow, poison). The idle twist is that you earn resources — gold, research points, or energy — even while offline or inactive. Upgrades persist between runs: tower damage, attack speed, range, and critical chance increase permanently through research trees. Many versions include prestige systems: resetting progress for a universal multiplier that speeds up future attempts. Core strategy still matters: you must position towers to cover chokepoints, balance anti‑air vs. ground defenses, and decide which tower types to invest in. However, idle elements reduce micromanagement — automatic collection, batch upgrades, and auto‑start waves allow you to check in periodically rather than clicking constantly. Difficulty scales with endless waves or progressively harder bosses. Some titles merge the genres completely: towers themselves might generate income (like resource collectors), or enemies drop chests that open after time passes. Unlike pure tower defense, Idle Tower Defense rewards long‑term investment, optimization of earning rates, and the satisfaction of watching your defenses demolish thousands of enemies with minimal input. Perfect for players who enjoy strategy planning but want relaxing, hands‑off progression
